Sad news to report, yesterday we found Fred dead in his tank, probably due to senility as he was getting a bit prone to butt burn and his appetite had decreased, we had plans to release him but he preempted us
Finally here are a couple of Pics of Bella, she is still very shy, so these aren't the best, she's about 50cm or so arm spread. In these she is on the tank bottom near one of the drains, hiding amongst the seaweed! Today she's gone into the concrete drainpipe we have in for a den and is not really on view, if you squint you can kind of see her!
We're almost out of the South Isl guide (reprinting!) and the Nth Isl is going well too!
Sad news, Bella has started to lay eggs, only 5 on the glass so far but tis the beginning of the end. She had us fooled, she's small for the species and is showing no other signs of senescence. So we'll look after her til the end.
Yes, this is a small egg species and gestation can be up to 80 days. As of yesterday she hadn't laid any more and she did eat a crab, so we may have a bit left with her yet.
After some discussion, Bella was released near a rocky reef. She hadn't laid more eggs so we thought to give her and them the best chance we could! Will keep you updated on our search for another, plus our baby!
still looking for a new big octopus, junior is on display but still very shy, we have him/her in a darkish tank so no pics yet, the flash completely freaks the wee guy out!
