Sperm whale stranding in Italy

    Between December 10th and 11th, a pod of seven sperm whales stranded on the coast of the Gargano Peninsula (Italy), in the Southern Adriatic Sea. Here are some photos.

    Thanks for posting. Here's a small article about it as well - I was trying to find out how they were going to deal with the carcasses. Burial as usual, apparently.

    The article mentions manmade noise as a possiblity but never substantiates that the noises were being made. I hate it when something is suggested without backing up the suggestion with some kind of information. It just does not help to solve a problem my making conjecture.

    Thanks Jenn, I kind of figured that the original suggestion was simply a hearsay but it does its damage. We do enough damage to our environment not to have to make up stuff and totally confuse real problems.

    The Latter is pretty neat; showing how Africa bumps into Europe, forming the Alps, quite similar to India pushing up the set of wrinkles known as the Himalayas in Asia...
