The included photos are of octos collected from nighttime 30m depth midwater trawls off Point Reyes and Monterrey Bay on the most recent NMFS Rockfish cruise (and subsequently released, no worries).

If anyone can help ID these little cuties, that'd be awesome. They find TONS of these guys, but no one on the cruise was into octos.

    Thanks!

    O. rubescens are known to swarm off shore and it is the right time of year, so that is probably your beast.

    Roy,
Looking at the arm development, would you say these are about to become benthic?
