Can the eggs be in the light?

    or should they be kept away from direct light?

    I would keep them away from direct light to minimise algal growth.

    +1 on that.
    I don't believe the light is bad for the eggs, but low lights would prevent algae growth, as you want to keep the eggs as clean as possible for as long as possible.
