In Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, he wrote and Kevin O'Neil drew a very specific Nemo.
We are to believe that the story takes place sometime after the events in Jules Verne's tale, and we see a side of Nemo because of it. Nemo seems to have not been the same after his encounter with the monster of the deep and everything he has reflects that.
