Closeup of vampyronassa's posterior or dorsal end (depending on convention)

This shows a close up of Vampyronassa's cone tip, including the small hard to discern fin.

Close up vampyronassa

Here's a larger pic, with the whole matrix attached. There's a clam above it, a shrimp behind, a small clam by the shrimp, and at first I thought a tentacle, but probably another poorly preserved shrimp up front beyond the tentacles.

Bacculites grandis

This is a 34" example of a western interior ammonite from South Dakota. (The ammonitella has been reconstructed.) Does anyone know if the slight bend typically found in bacculites is a characteristic of the animal or a product of fossilization?

E. amapondense

Cretaceous ammonite from Madagascar. Some authors consider this to be a species of Hyphantoceras rather than Eubostrychoceras. Any thoughts?

Large ammonite relics

I found this fossils many years ago when on a road works where the ground was broken open, in the region of the Suebian alps. They aren´t very nice and the one on the left side is in fact only a negative impression, but cause of their size they are still very impressive. The straightedge on the right side is 30cm in length. The shells seem to have broken just before the fossilsation.

Tusoteuthis gladius

The arrow shaped fossil accompanying the ammonite is a example of a gladius of Tusoteuthis, a late Cretaceous period giant squid. The gladius is a structure used give the body of the squid intenal support. This particular specimen is about 75cm long and is housed in the University of Kansas Collection.
