i have a question regarding whale bone... is there any way lsimilar to using a blacklight with ivory to tell if its real?

no, my late grandfather was a sailor in the 20-30s and among other things i have of his is a shoehorn my mom told me she thought was whale bone....

i dont have a black light, but can easily procure one from any number of friends....

I'm sure they would've seen the whale bloated up, couldn't they just poke a hole in?
