That's interesting about them not liking the dark cobalt blue bottle, as I think the consesus of opinion is that most cephs are colour blind, maybe it's the maybe it's something to do with the way light refracts through a transluscent dark bottle. We just put clear bottles in with our Midgets abd they love them. The fact they're see through doesn't seem to matter as much as size. They seem to like to feel solid walls all round. them so they often sit in the neck of the bottle.

my :twocents:

Maybe a few tubes and pipes. Why not try handfeeding him, let the interacton start early.

Joel, I have one piece of 3/4" pvc pipe in the tank. As far as I know baby hasn't been interested in it yet. I also bought a cat toy ball made of clear colored acrylic. I removed the bell inside and replaced it with 3 small shells. It has holes all over it, like a whiffle ball. Yesterday I stuck a small piece of shrimp (by hand) up to babies hideout, it rejected it 3 times before finally pulling it into the small whole. I don't know if baby ate it, or just got tired of me poking it in it's face.

Have you fed the baby live shrimp so far? Does he come out of the den often other than feeding?

Hi Joel, I put a couple of ghost shrimp in the first day I had the baby. I didn't see them get eaten. One of them was still in the tank a day later. I looked for dead bodies but did not find any, so I'm assuming they got ate. The baby doesn't come out much at all, only after all the lights but my monintor(tank is in my office) are off. He sits in his hole in the rock with a leg wrapped around his eye, peeping out. I can see him and he see's me. I put a small, white lego in the tank under his hole and he has moved it into his "shell collection" haven't seen him messing with it, but I think he has claimed it.

Maybe you could try a small turbo snail so you can check if it has been eaten, but we'll just hope it know how to get to them. Baby clams too since they don't eat the whole thing, see if there are empty shells later.

He's eating good, and quite a variety of things. I offered him ghost shrimp by hand tonight and he took 2 of them. Kind of creepy when his little tentacles touch me, it made me jump! :goofysca:  I'll get used to it though.

Spring :)
