The Secrets of Octopus Camouflage - NTDTV

not a lot of meat to the article but I had read something similar to this:

Two types of octopuses were filmed undersea during research: octopus cyanea and octopus vulgaris.

The images were converted to grayscale on account of the octopus’s color blindness.
The researchers cut from the image a triangular pattern of the octopus’s skin (the body without the arms).
An image processing computer program compared this pattern with the rest of the image in order to find a match.
Surprisingly, the best matches weren’t found on the bottom of the ocean in the vicinity of the animal.
Instead, 10 out of 11 octopuses emulated an object nearby, such as rocks, corals, outstanding sand spots or seaweeds.

earlier and assume the analysis is from the same study. It may suggest that if we would like to see different looks to our captive kept animals we should be thinking about putting a variety of structures in the tank.
