I think they are cute in a giant Anomalocaris kind of way...
It looks like one of the leading ground troups in a B sci-fi movie (note the helmet look to the head). In truth it looks no scarier than a lobster (Neal has often wondered what possessed the first person to even try to eat one) and would feed more people if you were not kidding about it being edible.
It's just a giant pillbug...
It's a giant pillbug that tastes like lobster, but has a firmer texture.
If it tastes like lobster and has a firmer texture, sign me up.
I'm quite fond of these. I think the NEAq had a couple when I was first working there. Their eggs alone are about 1/2 to 3/4" in diameter!
Gives me the heebie jeebies, but then as a child and teenager I had a phobia about pillbugs, while I've more or less got it under control now that one is just tooooooo much brrrrrr!
Bathynomus giganteus indeed
I saw some vids on the net shows Bathynomus giganteus , Hagfish and sharks scavenging dead whale on the deep sea floor.
very impressive ... is it edible ?
I've been told they are good
