Selenoteuthis scintillans is the single species of this genus. Like other members of its family, it has photophores on its eyes, mantle and tentalces.

Ps. These guys are awesome, they need common names... ideas?

I vote Elton Squid (big, bedazzling eyes as in Elton's sunglasses of the 70's).

 8-)

Well according to this website, histioteuthis is already named the jeweled squid.

May I suggest the bedazzled squid? Between Eltons glasses in the 70's (I like the idea Tony) and the bedazzling fad (what was that, the 80's) this is definitely looking like a squid from another era.

Oh, I don't know about that ... How about BlingBling squid. It sounds a little oriental and makes use of the jewels
