The Northern California Underwater Photography Society Announces the 25th Annual California Beach Dive Photo Competition.

May 22, 2006, San Francisco, California – The Northern California Underwater Photographic Society (www.NCUPS.org), proudly announces the 25th Silver Anniversary of the Annual California Beach Dive Photo Competition, June 10 and 11, 2006. On this weekend, scuba divers from all over California will converge on Monterey, California and compete for top prizes in one of the most unique underwater photo contests in the United States. This is a one-day competition open to underwater photographers of all experience levels, where all photos (film or digital) must be taken from beach dives along the Monterey coastline (Point Lobos and boat dives are not allowed).

The competition starts with registration on the morning of Saturday, June 10 and contestants spend the day scuba diving and shooting images. Images are then turned in at the Backscatter Underwater Video and Photo Shop on Cannery Row on Saturday afternoon, June 10, before divers and guests gather for dinner and a show on Saturday evening. A panel of judges, comprised of regional professional underwater photographers, select the winners on Sunday, June 11, and the winners are announced and prizes awarded Sunday afternoon.
Divers will compete for top prizes consisting of scuba and photographic equipment and dive trips to exotic tropical destinations. Top travel prizes consist of 1 week at the Tawali Resort in Papua New Guinea, 7 nights at Murex Dive Resort/Lembeh Resort in Indonesia, and a 1 week live-aboard trip from Aquaventures aboard the AquaOne in Thailand, all provided by Reef & Rainforest Dive & Travel Adventures. Other trips include a 1-week trip for two adults to the Exotic Caye Beach Resort in Belize and 3 nights/12 dives with Mike Ball Expeditions in Australia.
The $60 entry fee (if postmarked on or before June 2, 2006, $75 thereafter), includes two rolls of color film, processing, (digital entrants must supply their own digital media), Saturday evening dinner, the featured presentation, T-shirt, and an opportunity to participate in the raffle of unselected prizes at the awards show on Sunday.
