this is another fossil from the Traverse Group. its about 4in long and looks like the phragmacone of a straight shelled nautiloid, but the size and shape dont match Michelinoceras or Bactrited, the only Devonian orthocones recorded in this area. however, my resources are a bit dated and have been wrong before. has anyone seen any fossil cephalopods that resemble this one?

i doubt it. crinoid calcite is usually milky white and glassy in cross section, like this:


did you notice the other markings?
