These are small to medium sized squid (about 10-20 cm mantle length). They have a light emitting strip running down the center of their body.

schmidt came across quite a few orniteuthis individuals during that expedition:

per mike, that last one shows the hectocotylus, and the fiber/frayed appearance of one of the arm tips could be spermatophores
