I encountered this pacific giant octopus eating a dead female (probably after her eggs hatched), at Madrona Point's Big Wall on September 13, 2014.

I am having a bit of trouble separating the octopuses. Is the dead female still red or the gray-white I am used to associating with dying/dead animals?

The dead one is the grey one, looks like the live octopus has a hold of one large tentacle. Note all the rockfish and kelp greenlings hanging around for tender morsels.
