What type oflight cycle if any at all does a Octopus cyanea need. Do they need any lights on for a few hours? Is darkness all the time ideal?

Being a tropical species this animal would prefer in the region of 12 and 12 in its photoperiod. That's what I normally aim for with my tropical species.

It doesn't need to be the same cycle as whats happening outside. I normally use cheap 24hr timers and set its day time to suit when I am home
cheers
Colin
