I'm interested in knowing about a much overlooked octo byproduct: the interior surface linings of the sucker cups. What I'd like to propose is if said flaps of discarded tissue an mucous could be used for research purposes. Would it be possible to determine the age or sex of a specimen from the discarded linings? Is there any information to be found in them? Are there any skin cells or genetic material to be derived from the shedded rings?
