We have seen more and more whale strandings, more and more giant squid and now it appears oarfish may be in the deep water list of not usually seen animals washing up. It is hard to know if this is exposing issues or simply that we are monitoring and seeing far more ocean news than at any other time in the past because of the internet, climate change interest and the resulting additional money available for earth studies.
