So when we restructured the family, we confirmed the validity of a whole bunch of genera in the Mastigoteuthidae, one being Magnoteuthis. We also found a new species of Magnoteuthis, which is genetically distinct from the other two species in this genus (Mg. microlucens and Mg. magna). This species is different morphologically because of the location of the largest arm suckers. I've attached a picture of one of our specimens, and also one of the funnel-locking cartilage with the classic Magnoteuthis flask shape.
