Try adding a little saltwater to your freshwater mix next time (or you can use the water you remove from your fish tank when you do a water change and go completely saltwater). They are considered a freshwater animal but can live in full salt to brackish water. I find they do better in saltwater. I have also noticed that the crabs shipped in the cooler weather last a lot longer than summer shipped (clearly not the reason for the demise of these though). Odd that they were all active yesterday but it only takes one or two unnoticed deaths to pollute a small environment. My biggest problem keeping them (besides keeping them in their container) is keeping their water clean. When I can get them, I get full saltwater crabs because they are way easier to keep and don't stink.
Going on day 3 or 4 of no Misty sightings during the day.
No sign of the last 3 fiddlers we put in the tank last night, so, she is eating. Seems to be taking a turn for the nocturnal.
Edit:
I stand corrected. She came out around 4pm, and stayed out most of the evening. Took at least 1 stroll around the tank to hunt a little. I think she knows we are out of crabs.
Took a small piece of shrimp for dinner.
2 crabs on friday - 1 was eaten
2 crabs on saturday - looked like friday's was eaten
1 piece of shrimp and 1 crab in new enrichment tubes and toys - sunday
Intently watching her swim around
And saw 4 crabs move around in the tank
The one crab she ate was big... But not eat for the last couple days? AND is still very active? Weird.
Just saw her flick a crab. She has been flicking the scarlet shrimp too.
Check out the enrichment! Shrimp piece in the ball, and crab still in the pipes.
Hey folks. All is well with us. Misty is still thriving. Coming up on the 5 month mark.
She takes the cat balls and builds doors with them and likes to rearrange. Gets possessive of the balls if we try and take them away.
Still eating 1-2 fiddlers per day, and frozen shrimp pieces if we are between deliveries.
We have yet to catch her in the tubing, but she does climb on it. We stuffed one of the balls into the tube, since she uses them like a door, maybe she will take that one too.
We tried putting crabs in the tubing, but she sees it as a crab-o-matic and would rather wait until the crabs figure out how to get out.
She attacks the tubing, gets butthurt, and retreats, I feel bad, but it so funny at the same time.
