Humboldt Squid Strandings

    We have seen several Humboldt squid strandings over the last few years when there is an el Nino current operating up the CA cost. This thread it to keep a list of links of their strandings for historic review.

    does anyone know why these strandings occur?

    No, there are several theories that are quite diverse. It is not uncommon but the reason is unknown.

    i wish i knew more about red tides. ive been reading up on the two mass extinction events at the end of the Devonian, and anoxic events/algae blooms (possibly caused by nutrient-rich runoff from the first forests) are a big part it. with all the trash and fertilizer being dumped in the oceans today, i get a bad feeling history is going to repeat itself...:sad:
