Here is an id puzzle for our fossil crew

Orthoconic Nautiloid (Sensu lato). Cutting the fossil both transversely and longitudinally to show the position and shape of the siphuncle and the shape of the septa and septal necks would aid in identification, but probably destroy the aesthetics (and value?). If some one was to find the locality this one came from (or find literature describing fossils from this locality) there may be enough other specimens showing the internal features to refer this one to without dissecting it. :smile:
