Help with ID?

    Found this today lying in a field in the NW Chicago suburbs...I think it is a straight cephalopod? They are not uncommon here in quarries...but I've never found one so far.

    Yes, indeed looks like an Orthocerid. Without a view of the siphuncle that is about as good an ID as possible.

    I just registered at Tonmo for this ID, but have been enjoying this forum for a while.....fascinating and well-informed threads....I have to restrain myself from spending hours here!

    thats about as clear as cephalopod fossils get
