Giant Squid Video Viewing Party - Live Thread!

Emotional roller coaster. Jumping child screaming about squid, to feeling bad for O'shea, to tears about DeGury... Long night for a 4 year old.

I let my 5 year old stay up, I wanted him to witness history, at one point (about 15 minutes left), he asked me if it was going to be another 4 hours until he saw the giant squid. He spent the day asking me when it was coming on (he knew it was after the hockey game...).

I tried some shots with the camera. They are not good but hopefully we can keep them up for those who could not watch.

Ku's traditional

Dr. Widder's E-Jelly

In the end Steve and Edie added some form of food bait. Steve's was taken by another predator and ended his last dive.

Archi takes the bait

First success, unmanned e-jelly tethered to buoy, retrieved after storm

Steve added bait to his final attempt and lost it to a "larcenous B*****d vertebrate filth" of a fish.

Final day, final attempt - Ku nabbs it for 20 minutes with his squid bait. He takes a chance and turns on all the lights as it approaches. The topside crew were afraid the sub was joking when they called up the sighting.

A note at the bottom of one of my photo captures says:

(Jan 28 2013) but I don't see it listed in the schedule yet. I think they got a better viewing than they expected

YES!!! Thank goodness, because I actually missed this last night! I could have SWORN it was supposed to be shown at 10:00 p.m. EST, but ended up being shown at 9:00 p.m. I was so ticked! Oh well, I knew it would be rebroadcast again.
