Friendly octo at the Mokohinau Islands

We went for the first real dive of the season on Saturday, out to the Mokohinau Islands. Saw some nice wee fishies and cool encrusting stuff, but the obvious highlight of the day was meeting this guy - he was very curious and interactive, and reminded me all over again why I love octos. Sure, fish will come up and look at you, but you never get the feeling they're actually thinking about what they're seeing. This guy, however, appeared to be doing some complex calculations while trying to claim my fingers.

I have a video too, but it's too big... :hmm:

The automagic I was successful with on my green octo shots was not as successful with this one but it helped :wink: even if you do still have a stark white hand.
