Not strickly octo related but a terrible loss for an amazing place (which is just down the road from me):

How did they lose power to the life support AND back up systems. Isn't that the purpose of a back up system?

That's awful, we have a back up genny, but the sea water alarms also ring the pager for the on call tech, who has to come out and check things out, we also have a resident tech, who lives on site and can get all running within five or ten minutes (& has done so even when he wasn't on duty!)
