This idea is a holdover from when most hobby cuttles were wild caught adults. Soon after they were put into captivity in reef like environments their eyes would begin to cloud over, and the lights were blamed. It seems what was really happening was the animals were old and entering senescence.
A common symptom of senescence is the animals eye clouding up, impacting the animals ability to hunt.
