This idea is a holdover from when most hobby cuttles were wild caught adults. Soon after they were put into captivity in reef like environments their eyes would begin to cloud over, and the lights were blamed. It seems what was really happening was the animals were old and entering senescence.

A common symptom of senescence is the animals eye clouding up, impacting the animals ability to hunt.

Fun Forum!

I had an octopus male who did go blind in senescence, and you could see his eyes clouding. And I had low-level fluorescents, only on part of the day.

aw your octopus is going thru senescence, does a octopus have to mate with another before starving itself or does it not matter unless the optic glands are removed from the animal? :goofysca:
