Conanny - O.briareus Formerly Conan The Destroyer

That is huge compared to the tick size of my Mercs! Spread out I would say the Mercs were the size of a pencil eraser. They were eating small shore shrimp when they reached nickel size.

Congratulations on your new :baby::baby:!

That's about the size of the briareus babies I tried to raise.
Didn't realize the mercatoris hatchlings were so small, but then briareus is a much bigger octopus.

Really hoping many survive!

Nancy

Glad to hear that the finally decided to join us :smile:

Sounds like they are doing well. How many breeder nets did you set up?

ok so i walk down this morning and look at the tank and it looks like octo polka dots all over the glass... every egg hatched last night and so now the tank is officially infested. im working on catching 2-3 for each net and the ones in there are already eating the pods. ive put a couple in one of the breeder tanks upstairs for a trial run to make sure they are alright without a heater. im also working on lots of pics so dont worry

ok heres some pics and im uploading some videos now

Wow, great news for you.. Now instead of grey hair for when the eggs will hatch-- greys for becoming a grandparent to hundreds...LOL :smile: this has been amazing to follow

its a 125 with 100 gallon rubbermaid as a sump.

these pics are from tonight... less than 24 hours after hatching(hatched early morning of 4/8/08). all the babies have found homes for the most part now and attacking almost everything that passes within reach. i watched one baby take down a pod that was about 3 times its size. oddly enough all the peppermint shrimp that were left in the tank seemed to have dissappeared. the stone crabs completely ignore the babies and i even missed a great shot of a baby perched on top of a stone crab about 1000 times its size acting like he was going to eat the crab. conanny looked bad all day but seems to be doing a little better tonight.
