6/28/02 -- Thank you Roland!
Hey Tony,
You might be interested in running this photo of a large squid that washed up on the shore here in Puget Sound (an estuary in Washington State, USA) in September 2001. This is a Moroteuthis robusta, which is not a rare visitor. I have records of 28 found here in the last 50 years. The knife above the squid is 27 inches (68.5 cm) which puts the mantle length about 1.5 meters. Three have been found on the shore here this year so far, of a similar size. We are going to display one of them (in alcohol) here at the Seattle Aquarium in August.
Best regards,
Roland
