Abdopus Sp.? male insertion into female's mantle

Mating in Abdopus species usually occurs with the male remaining at a distance from the female and inserting his hectocotylized 3rd righ arm into the female's mantle cavity. Insertion can last for hours and might best be viewed as a form of mate-guarding.
