Baby Octopus briareus

This page contains photos and descriptions of Colin Dunlop's baby O. briareus.

An egg a few hours away from hatching...

The same baby just after it hatched...

...and here, beside my finger for scale. The crustacean to the left is dinner; an amphipod called Corophium volutator.

This contraption is what i have built to keep the babies in... Bear in mind that the babies are cannibalistic and you realise you need a lot of space. Basicly the water from the main tank is pumped up into this thing, through the chambers and back into the big tank. Well, lets see if it works... oh, it wasn't finished when this pic was taken, you need to have a lid!
