Early Jurassic 190 million year old belemnite guard (rostrum), that was collected from Port Mulgrave, North Yorkshire in the UK. The rostrum was wholly internal and may have functioned as a counterbalance to the head whilst swimming. These animals would have resembled squid and were equipped with an ink sac and ten arms covered in hooks.
