Stomatopods and octopus lost a real friend yesterday.

This morning I took a real blow to the gut when I learned that my long time friend, Mike deGruy, had been killed in a helicopter crash in Australia. Mike was one of the cinematographers who shot the "first" stomatopod film "Fastest Claw in the West". He and I worked on other programs featuring stomatopods, but Fastest Claw will always be my favorite. His skills as a cinematographer, his quick wit and hardy laugh, his love for the animals he filmed will be greatly missed.
