Can you blame her for not wanting a fishing lure/bobber?

If she follows my arbitrary "stages" of interaction from the hummelinckis, she will be stand offish for a week or two (I don't know how important it is to have daily contact or if my observations hold any water - NEXT time I will make a more detailed journal now that I have a sort of pattern). This seems (I really should have recorded this clearly) to come at about the time they stop pulling and start touching gently (I noticed she was still pulling last intereaction).

Since she is not carrying protection shells, I am guessing this is a step in building trust but it may just be that she was digesting. It is interesting that she is day active and was eating (without being give a treat) during the day as I just read that they are supposed to be nocturnal.

Light bulb! Do you have something make of clear shiny plastic that floats and could be weighted? If you will look at Maya's last video or some of SueNami's pictures with the "ice cube" there is a good example of what I am thinking about. Both octos have been attracted to this toy and I think it has to do with the way it reflects light. If you read my last notes on Maya, it almost appears that she can see the cube better than the orange/blue/yellow ball that contains the food. SueNami would "float" on the cube and keep it under her webbing after eating the attached food.

    wow guys
this is just facinating your interaction with the occy ,

a few weeks back i was stoked to have a occy come out of his hole jump on my hand and take me away a bit , but this pales compared to your friendship with this amazing creature.

so i was wondering how do i begin to build trust with a occy , do i have to visit every day ?

when the occy mooves onto my hand sucks and feels me what does that mean ??? your food ,,,, your sex ,,,, what are you ,,,,,,play?

    regards

Yet another loss, I went down to the pool last week and there was no sign of Situ Two, during the following week we had another flood the 5th for this year( 3 of which were 1 in 100 years...work that out) anyway I was hoping that she had just gone out because of prior knowledge of the impending flood. A week late and there is till no sign, so I'm assuming that she may have been older that I thought and that she has gone out to lay.

On a brighter side I did find another ....back in the large pool with all the zooanthoids, this story will come at a later date as I have to go away for a few days training.

Matty, I just took my time in getting to know them, always move slowly and try not to react(jerky movements) when they wrap the arms around your hand, and make sure that there is no sign of food on your hands before you go near them.

    Keeping objects in the webbing

Our newsbot found this story about a captive octopus that used the lid of a jar to keep prey trapped and animals away from her food. It reminded me of In Situ Two's behavior of always having something in her webbing.
