    Figure 5

Figure 5 shows an ammonite, Prionocyclus novamexicanus, both whitened and un-whitened. While you can see many details in either one, the whitened photo shows the shape and ornament of the fossil best, especially in a black and white format.

  2. Smokin' Cephalopod Fossils (for publication)

With the advent of digital cameras the process of photographing fossils for publication has became a lot easier. The first plates I had the pleasure of helping with, way back in the ‘90s, involved many hours with an ink pen tracing the outline of fossils on the film negative under a microscope. These days, with a program like Adobe PhotoShop, the time can be reduced significantly.

Every 30 minutes our resident robot "octobot" will check for new Blog entries and when found, will post about it in a hidden forum dedicated for such notifications. There are no replies or new posts allowed in that new forum (which is hidden from the forum listing) - only the octobot notifications are posted there.

After working here for close to two weeks, I've started noticing things I wouldn't ...

  5. This just in: A Southern Fiddler Ray just died.

During the routine slacking off time while working at the aquarium, the scuba diver came up and brought us a dead fiddler ray from one of the larger tanks.

We took some photos, buried it in ice and a trashbag and we're not waiting for the vet to come up to have a look.

    Awesome.
Also, pictures, incoming...at some point. (Can't let the boss know we're slacking off AND taking pictures that aren't really work related)
