All,

Does anyone know if mimic octopus, (Thaumoctopus mimicus) are known to be maternal egg brooders? Our female is carrying a few strings of eggs (~150 eggs) at the base of her arms. It does not seem that she is doing so for lack of a place to deposit them - more like she intends to carry them around with her. Neat trick - she fed today. I can't imagine how she managed to manipulate the food past the eggs without dropping one or the other.
Since we've had her alone since 12/06, these eggs are probably infertile.

Thanks,

Jay Hemdal

I'm going to double post over in the husbandry area as well.

I posted some info on brooding in Wunderpus (not the same, but similar) on the other thread (http://www.tonmo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=91504#post91504)...
