can anyone tell me the scientific name of this octo. i got it from the intertidal region of tamilnadu coast of india. it was resting inside a sponge.

That's a nice looking octopus. Are you keeping him in an aquarium, or putting him back in the ocean?
Does it have any eyespots or other markings? And what's it's size: length of body, length of arms.

hello nancy
actually this photo is the only thing left with me. the octo died within a couple of days. there was no eyespots on the body. the mantle length was about 2 cm and the arm length would have been nearly 7 cm.

that looks exactly like my first octopus, and that one died within a week of getting him as well.... hmmm

Its often impossible to find the scientific name for your pet octopus. Many species are difficult to discern from photographs and its unlikely that your distributor knows where and how it was collected.
