View Full Version : TONMOCON II Poll
tonmo Nov 10th, 2006, 10:46pm OK, it's time to start getting an idea of who will be there and who will be square. Please respond to the Poll on this thread and let us know if you plan to join our second TONMO.com convention (TONMOCON II) at MOTE in Sarasota, Florida, on June 23rd / 24th, 2007. Agenda and details to follow, but for an idea of what TONMOCON I was like, click here.
erich orser Nov 11th, 2006, 05:34am Obviously, I'll definitely be there. I think I have to give a presentation or something. Probably on cephalopods in art and mythology. Who else is up? I've heard a few yeas, few nays so far...
sorseress Nov 11th, 2006, 11:34am I certainly have every intention of attending. I look forward to meeting other Tonmoers in person, not just via the internet.

jc45 Nov 13th, 2006, 04:04pm Well, since I'll be at MOTE at that time anyway, it's inevitable that I'll at least see you guys. I do plan to attend, though!

Fini Nov 13th, 2006, 04:50pm I've been waiting years now to buy a house as the market in California has been over-inflated for years now. Now that the market is giving a little I think my wife and I might try to get our first home. That means that all my fun money spending is put on hold until we decide on whats happening. Either way, if I have money freed up, I'll be there, but if we decide to get a house it will probably be Tonmocon III that I finally make it to.
chrono_war01 Nov 28th, 2006, 11:51am I'm probably not coming this year. Unless I win a few thousand bucks off the lottery or something.
Thales Nov 28th, 2006, 12:39pm I am planning on being there.
erich orser Nov 28th, 2006, 02:58pm Richard, we'd be quite happy if you gave another presentation. Your last one was fantastic.
Thales Nov 28th, 2006, 03:46pm I would be honored and willing! PM me the details of what you are looking for.
monty Nov 28th, 2006, 04:13pm In contemplating all the cool things Thales might talk about, and the ones he did talk about last time, it occurs to me that something that might work in some way would be to have some sessions more oriented to "round table discussions" or "panel discussions" rather than the "one person lectures" format. Of course, some of that is because I might be more comfortable moderating a discussion than giving a lecture myself-- I certainly don't mean to suggest that I had any problems with any of the lectures last time around, just that it might be fun to mix in some back-and-forth discussions...
main_board Nov 28th, 2006, 06:25pm Do I hear the comeback of the Octopod-cast?
chrono_war01 Mar 17th, 2007, 01:19pm Slight change of plans, due to a very short summer break, Grade/Year 11 Exams that will take place until the end of July. I will not be attending TONMOcon, unless a sudden outbreak of anthrax or bird flu breaks out in Hong Kong.
cthulhu77 Mar 17th, 2007, 02:56pm I'm still waiting to see if it would be PC of me to show up !
dwhatley Mar 18th, 2007, 10:54pm Last month the answer was a definite yes and we had started making plans. Unfortunately our "hotel" will be closed that week as my sister in Tampa will be in St Maartin. She and spouse have invited us to go along if we can find cheap flights so now it is up to Delta/Spirit to make the decision. Needless to say we can't commit either way until the last minute.
WhiteKiboko Mar 19th, 2007, 01:36am you seem to be roughly about the same distance as me from sarasota.... while i do have a slightly less congested path, (and don't have to cross atlanta :goofysca:) an 8 hour ride in the car seems a bit more cost effective for me...
tonmo Mar 19th, 2007, 06:39am ...working agenda to be posted soon!
PurpleTentacle Apr 12th, 2007, 10:47am So up until this morning I was thinking that it just wasn't going to be possible for me to attend, but now I'm thinking that despite being on probation in my new job here at UCSD, I've already put in a ridiculous amount of hours and they probably wouldn't mind giving me a day off, even though I'm technically not allowed to take vacation yet. All this talk about a sperm whale washing up on a santa barbara beach with squid beaks in its stomach has me thinking cephy again. So I am now a "probably yes". Just have to get the boss to agree not to notice that I'm not around that Monday.
Haven't been around these forums much since the last tonmocon, so I suppose I've got a bit of catching up to do.
Michael Blue Apr 12th, 2007, 12:56pm I need to learn all I can about this hobby, and I would LOVE to meet all you folks, but this year isn't looking like it would work out at this point; so I'm a "probably not".
Situations with work and home simply wouldn't allow it this time around, but I'll be waiting with anticipation for the next one!
sorseress Apr 12th, 2007, 01:25pm I'm hoping that the next one can be in New Zealand.
Jean Apr 12th, 2007, 04:34pm I'm hoping that the next one can be in New Zealand.
YEAH!!!!!!!
