Finally here are the pictures from the event we held at Portobello to welcome Karanui, the colossal squid model to the south!
In the first pic there is an activity table based on giant squid, the second picture is one of our staff Tahu, dressed as "Tahunui" a squid costume she made (she's very into the dramatic arts!) and the third is a detail from the table, each of the little squares can be turned an there is an interesting snippet of info on the reverse.

No 1 is a young visitor, with a squid lantern (made by Tahu!), then Steve talking about Messie and finally the star herself looming out of the gloom (we had a smoke maker working!)

1 evening!!!!!! But it led onto a week of stuff for the school holidays and the science festival eg Steve giving a public lecture, a lecture on how karanui was made, a showing of the animal face off episode, public squid dissections with yours truly etc etc etc!
