tonmo Aug 6th, 2006, 08:59pm Good luck Nancy! We're here.
(Monty, oops, tending to those smilies now... thanks!)
sorseress Aug 6th, 2006, 09:00pm Best wishes for a speedy, and as painfree as possible, recovery. Getting older is a real *#!#@ isn't it? I'm assuming the replacement thing...but even if it isn't, knees are tough. Be well soon.
Phil Aug 6th, 2006, 10:41pm Best wishes Nancy. Don't be long, we kneed you here!
Fini Aug 6th, 2006, 10:58pm Best wishes for a fast recovery.

Now we need a groaning smiley... Nancy, good luck and we wish you a speedy recovery.
Nancy Aug 7th, 2006, 01:15am Thanks everyone.
Yes, it's total knee replacement, which is pretty common these days.
Looking forward to getting this over with and having a new knee.
Nancy
i need cuttle Aug 7th, 2006, 02:57am best wishes and hope for a full recovery, if you need anything aquarium wise il give you my cell # in case of tank emergencies as we only live like 15 min apart.
Mizu Aug 7th, 2006, 09:08am Good Luck
hope you make a speedy recovery
Illithid Aug 7th, 2006, 09:50am My Dad had that done. Said it sucked right after, and to take your pain pill before physical therapy.
Now his "bionic" knee (as we call it) is much better than his remaining original one, and he didnt have a problem with the other one!
Fingers crossed indeed!
Ouch! Post # 666....
Armstrong Aug 7th, 2006, 12:39pm Good luck with the knee surgery. My grandmother had knee surgery on both knees a few years ago. It's going to take a while to recover depending on what type of surgery, but im sure you already know. But at least it wont stop you from coming on here so I hope to hear back from you soon.
Akyu Aug 7th, 2006, 05:36pm Good luck Nancy! Make sure to take a video of you water-skiing with your new knee soon.
corw314 Aug 7th, 2006, 07:58pm Best Wishes for a Speedy recovery from me and Jess!
tonmo Aug 9th, 2006, 09:08pm Everyone, we have an update on Nancy from her husband:
Nancy's knee-replacement operation went very well (it was completed noon yesterday), but she is still in the hospital recovery unit. I saw her soon after the operation yesterday, and she was fine, except for being somewhat incoherent because of the drugs. She asked for a computer, presumably to do work for Tonmo, but the hospital said no.
corw314 Aug 9th, 2006, 09:13pm We're thinking of you Nancy! Anxiously awaiting more updates!!!

erich orser Aug 9th, 2006, 09:36pm I'm glad everything went well! Looking forward to having you back among the tentacled throng soon!
monty Aug 9th, 2006, 09:45pm   hope the recuperation continues to go well!
sorseress Aug 9th, 2006, 11:03pm It woud have been interesting reading what you had to say when you were incoherent from the drugs! Hope the next few days pass quickly for you and you're soon home.
Phil Aug 10th, 2006, 07:17am Yep, come back soon Nancy! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
tonmo Aug 10th, 2006, 10:11pm She's now in therapy twice per day, and the hope is for her to go home by the weekend. Scaling back on medications today.
I'm arranging to have some flowers waiting for her from all of us at TONMO.com.
cuttlegirl Aug 10th, 2006, 10:26pm Tony,
Let us know how we can contribute some $$$ for the flowers...
tonmo Aug 11th, 2006, 07:06am We've got it -- it's from our Supporters!

Nancy Aug 13th, 2006, 11:48pm Good news! I'm back! Thanks for all the good wishes - I missed you all.
The surgery went well and I'm back home with an improved knee , now just need to do lots of exercise and make it strong.
Sometimes I've envied our octo friends, no joints to give them problems, and if they have trouble with one arm, so what? There are 7 others!
Nancy
aximbigfan Aug 13th, 2006, 11:56pm hey nancy! hows your tentical feeling?
chris
Nancy Aug 14th, 2006, 12:02am My tentacle is feeling a little stiff, but isn't very painful (unless I bend it too much! ) I can get around pretty well, but slowly (now if I only could swim about!)
Nancy
cuttlegirl Aug 14th, 2006, 12:15am :welcome: back, good to see you here!
monty Aug 14th, 2006, 03:39am Ain't that the bee's knees, or something like that. :welcome: back! Are you home, or did someone bring a wireless laptop to your recovery room?
corw314 Aug 14th, 2006, 07:57am Welcome back Nancy! We missed you!!! Glad to hear you are progressing nicely!!!!

sorseress Aug 14th, 2006, 01:13pm :welcome: back Nancy! Glad you're doing well. A word of warning....a friend tried to push her recovery too fast, did more than her PT said she should do, and ended up back in the hospital, so slow and steady is the way to go.
Nancy Aug 14th, 2006, 03:22pm Yes, I'm home recovering and very comfortable. Sitting at my ususal place at my laptop, looking out at the shady deck and garden. It looks so much cooler than it is - will be over 100 degrees today.
Thanks for the advice, sorceress! The physical therapist is coming to my home this afternoon, will be here every day this week, and then 3 days/week for 5 weeks, so I'm going to get a real workout. No, I'm not going to push myself - these therapy sessions are supposed to be difficult enough. They measure the angles you can bend your leg with a protractor!
Your good wishes helped a lot, and it's great to be back. Just have a little catching up to do. I have some new ideas for Ceph Care, too.

Fini Aug 14th, 2006, 05:28pm So glad to hear things are moving right along for you. Like sorseress said, slow and steady will get you repaired faster than pushing that knee.
Do you have a dog you can train to get you stuff?
Nancy Aug 17th, 2006, 12:00am Here are the beautiful flowers that Tony sent me on behalf of the TONMO.com community. They're more colorful than this photo shows, with deeper purples and stronger contrast. I've appreciated these flowers (they arrived shortly after I got out of the hospital) and wanted to thank all of you for the good wishes that have helped me during this time!
Nancy
cthulhu77 Aug 17th, 2006, 09:00am Very, very happy that you are doing better ! It's great you have a room with a nice view too, that makes the recovery easier than sitting in some nasty hospital room.
Keep us posted,
Greg
Illithid Aug 17th, 2006, 10:28am Thanks for the advice, sorceress! Check with your therapist on that. My Dad's wanted him to push it HARD on the therapy, but not to put ANY weight on it. He took his pain pill before the session and did everything he was told and more. He didn't ever try to walk on it, but when he was at his final Dr. appointment the Dr. said "It's okay you can walk now" and he did. With no pain or limit to mobility he carried his walker to the car. Someone else at work had it done and started walking on it early and had problems afterwards.
My Dad is thrilled with the final results. You will do fine.
tonmo Aug 17th, 2006, 08:55pm My boss had a ruptured achille's tendon, and in physical therapy he pushed too hard (under instruction) and it re-snapped so bad that it actually broke the skin when he fell forward. I mean, he really bent it! So his new philosophy is "steady as she goes."
Do what feels right!
Nancy, I'm glad the flowers met you well!
Nancy Aug 18th, 2006, 12:35am That's a scarey story, Tony! I've heard others, too.
Also, everyone who goes through knee replacement PT never forgets it - quite painful and of course your physical therapist is the taskmaster. I'm not going to do anything too drastic, but just improving my range of motion a bit each day takes a lot of effort!
Thanks for reminding me of this - I'll be careful!
Nancy
sorseress Aug 18th, 2006, 05:59am My friend was WAAAY too impatient, and decided she could walk on it and even go up and down stairs......She was soon to learn that her PT knew a lot more than she did. That's what you get for having a type A personality!
By the way Nancy, it's really nice having you posting again.
