Erich, have you been evangelizing :cthulhu: again?
sorseress Jul 4th, 2006, 10:47pm Weird! :cthulhu:
CapnNemo Jul 5th, 2006, 05:09am The Stars must be 'Right'. Gulp!
erich orser Jul 5th, 2006, 05:27am Not surprising in the least. I knew this kind of stuff would start happening...
HA!
Okay, actually, that's rather bizarre. But AWESOME nonetheless!
chrono_war01 Jul 5th, 2006, 06:39am Awesome, but it made me think:
"What's wrong with the world?"
cttlfish Jul 5th, 2006, 01:14pm you mean that so many people are worried about Cthulhu, as opposed to Russia's political problems?
cthulhu77 Jul 5th, 2006, 02:01pm You won't be saying that when the stars align.
Graeme Jul 7th, 2006, 07:14am Haha, I wonder what he did think of Cthulhu after all? and if he's going to start building Gundams:grin:
Graeme
cthulhu77 Jul 7th, 2006, 10:14am "Comrades! We have mechs down at nav gamma, bring in the heavies! They are assaultiing our Rodina!"
abaddon Jul 8th, 2006, 03:29am Actually, Cthulhu mythos and human-killing robots is quite popular topics in russian part of livejournal.com, so there was a flashmob to vote for these questions :)
chrono_war01 Jul 8th, 2006, 06:57am "Comrades! We have mechs down at nav gamma, bring in the heavies! They are assaultiing our Rodina!"
Hm...a Communist Gundam, can we paint it red with a yellow hammer and anvil on it's arms? t would look cool to duke it out with the Capitalist Gundams (painted in green and looking like money of couse.)
abaddon Jul 8th, 2006, 08:30am Hm...a Communist Gundam, can we paint it red with a yellow hammer and anvil on it's arms? t would look cool to duke it out with the Capitalist Gundams (painted in green and looking like money of couse.)
Why anvil? There are no anvil in communist symbols but hammer and reaping-hook
ravenschild Jul 8th, 2006, 10:40am Y'know, I hate to say it, but I think the comment about him looking like Dobby was correct.
The thing is, those of us who have a Pacific coastline have to worry, since we'll be the ones who have to fend off the first waves of creatures from the sunken deep : ) I'm sure leaders in Switzerland never get questions like these.
a_lex Jul 11th, 2006, 02:26pm Little does one know that Putin has answered this question, and in his answer he expressed his suspicion of Great Chthulhu.
He said the following (quote from lenta ru, translation by me)
""I treat all such supernatural forces with suspicion, and
would suggest those seeking thruth to refer to Korane, Talmud and Bible, as it might be more beneficial."
I wonder what made him so distrusfull of Great One (Chthulhu is nice, at least he is 100% against any discrimination ;-) ) and what exactly is Chthulhu suspected of.
He also did not explain his unobvious conclusion of Bible, Torah and Korane being somehow more favourable than Chthulhu (indeed, that is quite questionable)

My oh my, we've got to emailt this to Chaosium. Realy. Just think of the possibilities: Russian setting for CoC! Marvelous...
P.S.: As for Sov Gundams, it is pointless to paint them at all, as they will be, surely, equipped with permamently active failproof cloaking device that will render them invisible, both opticaly and through any but most sophisticated radar systems.
Nasha sluzhba i opasna i trudna - I na pervy vzglad, konexhno, ne vidna =)
monty Jul 11th, 2006, 03:53pm ""I treat all such supernatural forces with suspicion, and

As everyone knows, there is nothing supernatural mentioned in mainstream Holy Books...
Toren Jul 12th, 2006, 03:44am Everything is going according to my master plan...
a_lex Jul 12th, 2006, 06:21am I wonder if Kursk disaster is somehow connected with the Chthulhu-Putin affair... :scream:
erich orser Jul 12th, 2006, 07:19am No, that was the Cthulhu-related organization known as SPECTRE.
SpawnoChaos Jul 12th, 2006, 09:37am Wrong yet again! The Cult of Cthulhu is directly behind all of this mess... once they have the mass media under control, combined with televangilists, there will be nothing to stop them from destroying the Gnomes of Zurich, the Bermuda Triangle Organization, AND the UFO Conspiracy Group.
We are looking at the end as we know it my friends! Might as well prostrate yourself in front of the Pacific Ocean and wait for The Great One to arise from the depths... this of course to the song Call of Kthulhu done by Metallica. :cyclops:
Graeme Jul 12th, 2006, 01:30pm Hm...a Communist Gundam, can we paint it red with a yellow hammer and anvil on it's arms? t would look cool to duke it out with the Capitalist Gundams (painted in green and looking like money of couse.)
you could just have a Zaku for the Capitalists. It's green already:grin: Just paint either a big $ or £ on it. Or whatever.
I'm sure leaders in Switzerland never get questions like these.
I dunno, I hear that Switzerland has a very powerful navy. Well, a navy anyway. I wish that was just a joke.

TPOTH Jul 12th, 2006, 05:03pm Awesome, but it made me think:
"What's wrong with the world?"
People?
TP:yinyang:TH
erich orser Jul 12th, 2006, 06:07pm I'm sorry, any true Cthulhu anthem would a a big-brass mid-Sixties Vegas-style number performed by Tom Jones. Cthulhu loves lounge singers. Metallica would've been fine if they had used spellcheck prior to unleashing their instrumental song.:cthulhu:
a_lex Jul 14th, 2006, 03:53am Here is a piece of press concerning this matter. Quite serious press, The St. Petersburg Times. It is English, so enjoy http://www.times.spb.ru/index.php?action_id=2&story_id=18178
a quote
...Asked about the possible awakening of the giant mythical octopus Cthulhu, the fourth-most popular question among the more than 150,000 sent to Putin, he said that he believed something more serious was behind the question. Cthulhu was invented by novelist H.P. Lovecraft and was said to be sleeping beneath the Pacific Ocean.
Putin said he viewed mysterious forces with suspicion and advised those who took them seriously to read the Bible, Koran or other religious books...
What have we learned
1) Putin seems aware of Chthulhu Mythos
2) Putin considers the Mythos at the very least comparable in importance (and thus close to) the mainstream religious materials, because when one suggests that Koran or Bible is better that Mythos, he actualy claims all of them to be at least of the same nature, and thus comparable (a stance no atheist would argue, for sure  )
3) Putin states mainstream religious material to be favourable compared to the Chthulhu mythos, though he does not elaborate on how, why and for whom are Bible and Koran favourable (maybe the Cult of Chthulhu, if they seek to keep a low profile and need props to distract public attention, eh? )
4) Chthulhu is serious enough to arouse suspicion in the President of Russia (a nuclear superpower and a leading oil exporter, may I humbly remind)
5) The President of Russia does not explain what exactly does he suspect and what exactly is the cause of his distrustfull attitude towards Chthulhu and other "mysterious forces" (whoever that forces may be...)
Possible conclusions may be either
a) Damn, this thing beggs for some related CoC settings and other stuff! Call Chaosium! Party! :glass:
or
b) Ia! Ia! The Stars will soon be Right! Ia Chthulhu! Ia Putin! Party! :glass:
depending on your belief system.
P.S.: Note that both conclusions share a common part. Thus, no matter what we believe, lets party, yeah! 8-)
chrono_war01 Jul 14th, 2006, 04:37am Hm...a Communist Gundam, can we paint it red with a yellow hammer and anvil on it's arms? t would look cool to duke it out with the Capitalist Gundams (painted in green and looking like money of couse.)
Opps, I meant sickle.
a_lex Jul 17th, 2006, 12:51am I'm sorry, any true Cthulhu anthem would a a big-brass mid-Sixties Vegas-style number performed by Tom Jones.Cthulhu loves lounge singers.
Sure thing. Chthulhu will drive Tom Jones mad and eat him before any of us, right after the music stops. (see http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=135 )
Everybody loves lounge singers, it is just a matter of culinary skill.
Metallica would've been fine if they had used spellcheck prior to unleashing their instrumental song.
My-oh my, they didn't spellcheck it? I knew something was not okay with it, I knew it  !
Oh. and in case anyone is interested, here is a site that boasts having that very conference fragment http://www.radiomayak.ru/interview/06/07/06/52164-audio.html
it is Russian, off course. Anyway, in case someone here keeps an archive of all internet funny stuff...
