Here's an email I received this morning and thought I'd share here...

Maybe this will be of some use for you guys but I sighted a VERY large, and quite possibly "giant" squid on May 2nd in washington state! The squid just came out of nowhere. My best estimate was that it was 3-7 feet in length and very huge in girth. It made quite a ruckus near the shore than escaped into the deep water. Hope this helps.

Moroteuthis robusta (http://tolweb.org/Onykia_robusta/19976) is also known from the Pacific Northwest. Not sure about their depth range, but I'd love to see one!
