View Full Version : [Announcement]: TONMO.com Subscriptions
tonmo May 27th, 2003, 06:33pm TONMO.com is pleased to announce that you can now become a TONMO.com Supporter by subscribing to the site. Details can be found on our Subscriptions (http://www.tonmo.com/store/subscribe.php) page. By becoming a TONMO.com Supporter, you are not only supporting the site, but you also have access to our private TONMO.com Supporters forum. I'll see you there!
Also, members who subscribe will have their rank value set to "TONMO.com Supporter" (as opposed to Larval Mass, etc.). The rest of the TONMO.com site offerings remain "free", and we will continue to post exciting news and happenings in the cephalopod universe in all the appropriate forums and places throughout the site. The subscribers-only area is designed to be a special, private, additional place for ceph enthusiasts to gather and discuss our favorite creatures. Thanks!

TONMO,
In the new forum, will subscribers be allowed to use the F-word?
Clem
tonmo May 27th, 2003, 08:10pm Yes, discussion pertaining to the firefly squid is most welcome. :P
There is a welcome note posted in the forum now, which talks about the kind of discussion / tone that is welcome there. Why don't you go have a look?

I did, but there was no specific mention of the use/prohibition of the F-word.
The word "intimate" was used. It's not that kind of forum, is it?
Clem
tonmo May 27th, 2003, 09:16pm I suppose it's all what you make of it. :) That said, general board guidelines do still apply...
What I was referring to was the welcome note on the TONMO.com Supporters forum itself (not the Subscriptions page). But, really, it's essentially saying the same thing I'm saying here and on the Subscriptions page: it's pretty much a place for "extra" discussion, in an environment where only TONMO.com Supporters (and staff) are allowed.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go remove the word "intimate" from the Subscriptions page...
krin May 27th, 2003, 11:03pm I assume costs are in US$?
KRin
tonmo May 27th, 2003, 11:27pm That's correct, KRin, I've updated the Subscriptions page to reflect this.
As I understand it, PayPal accepts several international currencies and will convert the price for you accordingly.
Melissa May 28th, 2003, 06:26pm Hi Tony
I'm sure the bandwidth usage on TONMO is enormous, especially after the colossal squid news. I always wonder how friends with popular blogs or elaborate websites keep going, so I'm happy to subscribe to help defray costs. It's still a lot less than New Scientist and more focused on my fetish. There's that f-word, Clem!

Finally.

Free forums for fun; funded forum for future festivities...
DocidicusGigas Feb 13th, 2004, 08:21pm Gah.... I can't go on! And I can't donate anyway!
Toren Jan 20th, 2006, 01:35am I want to subscribe but ONLY for one year. How do I do it?
tonmo Jan 20th, 2006, 07:47am Hi -- just responded to your email on this subject... the answer for all reading is that you can just pay through PayPal and then cancel your subscription -- I'll track it and then "downgrade you" after one year.
Checks are accepted as well, just email me for details.
Toren Jan 20th, 2006, 03:08pm What if I'm worried that I'll forget to cancel in a year because my memory is like pudding?
tonmo Jan 20th, 2006, 09:32pm well you can cancel in a day and you can rely on my pudding-like memory to make sure you are "downgraded"...
or... you can just let your subscription renew... never a bad thing to support TONMO.com, is it?
tonmo Jun 19th, 2006, 09:37pm FYI, the Supporter Subscription program is now available for a fee of $5 (US) per month. The annual subscription has been retired.
8-)
Cephkid Jun 19th, 2006, 11:48pm I SUPPORT TONMO.com AT $60 A YEAR!!!! WYGALLII!!! :madsci:
cthulhu77 Jun 20th, 2006, 10:10am Well, after going over some of the things that our staff is talking about, I can understand why the price is jumping a tad. Prior to coming unglued, try it and see.
greg (trust me on this one)
Cephkid Jun 20th, 2006, 01:19pm 'Tis worth it, so 'tis.
tonmo Jun 22nd, 2006, 10:17pm Updated pricing model:
$5 / monthly
$40 / annually
$3 / monthly (student rate)
Students must email me personally with their school and/or university name. I'd be interested in learning about the marine biology program at your school, too! (but that's not required )
Also note that Supporter forums have been split into two: one is "Off Topic Discussion" (and new posts will NOT show up on the homepage), and the other is "Premium Ceph Discussion" (and new posts WILL show up on the homepage).
As you might guess, the former is for chit-chat and banter. The latter will contain premium content only accessible to Supporters. The Staff has agreed that Ceph Care content shall NOT be held behind the Supporter wall, out of interest for cephalopod well-being. That is, we'd hate for a cephalopod to suffer because a non-paying member or visitor was unable to get information that may have helped the user better care for his or her cephalopod.
So -- if a post or discussion specific to ceph care is made in the private forum, and if it is deemed of unique quality and should be shared with the masses, every effort will be made to do just that.
Thanks to the TONMO.com staff for helping me arrive at the right offering here.
Stay tuned for more benefits for TONMO.com Supporters...

Wow! I'm away from the internet for four days and everything goes nuts! Frankly, this move makes an awful lot of sense. Dedicated servers are mucho expensive.
tonmo Aug 20th, 2006, 07:51pm Another change has been made to the Supporters program. This change does not affect existing Supporters! For as long as you maintain your TONMO.com Subscription, your subscription payment model will not change. This change only affects new subscribers.
There is now one annual Subscription price: $40 per year. The benefits remain unchanged (access to two subscription-only private forums, twice as much PM space, etc.).
Thanks for your Support!
