Hi,
Has anyone ever read about fisherman catching octopus by scattering ash in holes in the reef?
I'm guesing that the ash irritates the octopus skin in some way.

If anyone has heard/read anything about this, in particular whether it causes any damage to the octopus, then i'd be grateful for any information you can give me.

wow, thats interesting. In all my years of catch and release I have never heard of such a technique. You should ask chrono_war01, hes part of the staff who lives in hong kong, says that he sees cephs in the market all the time were he lives. He could probably help you the most out of anyone on this site.
