View Full Version : A little fun with ranks :-)
The TONMO.com Message Board system is now taking advantage of the "rank" feature. Members are ranked based on the number of posts they've posted to the message board. For example, users who have posted between 1 and 15 posts are given the rank "Larval Mass". From 15 to 40 posts you are a "Baby Bimac". You get the idea...
Member rank status appears to the left of member posts, above the avatar. The Webmaster (that's me) and Moderators are simply identified as such.
Note that you shouldn't try to post lots of meaningless/blank notes just to improve your rank, we'll all know what you're trying to do... :wink: :mrgreen:

I think we should include this colossal ammonite Titanites in there somewhere (2000+).
Heavens, at 257 posts I haven't even made Architeuthis yet!!!! I'm still a giant gelatinous octopus.
Good idea Steve, will incoproate. Meanwhile, I've added rank values to the memberlist. Can't sort by them though...
FYI, I've updated the Board Stats page to include all kinds of new statistical information about usage on this board.
It includes the breakdown of member ranks, plus a lot more. Perhaps most interesting is the "most commonly used words" list... I like the one that came in first... :)
The page will take several seconds to load (it takes a lot of work to crunch those numbers)... Enjoy!

The latest -- just finally added Titanites and made Cthulhu less... attainable... and added the most important rank of all, TONMO.com Supporter (http://www.tonmo.com/store/subscribe.php) :wink: :notworth:
(Note that even as a "special rank" such as Moderator, Webmaster or TONMO.com Supporter, your posts are still tallied and you are assigned your rank on the TONMO.com stats page.)

So, I was a little sad that I couldn't see my rank anymore once I became a paid supporter... I was thinking it would be nice if it appended the rank after the supporter string...
Obviously, this isn't a big deal, but I thought it might be an easy change. Then again, maybe some people pay to hide their rank, I dunno....

Speaking of posting silly nonsense, do posts on supporters count the same toward ranks? How about snide comments in response to spam threads which are subsequently deleted?
Posts in the Supporters forum DO count... as for deleted posts.... I just tested, and it does seem to affect your post count... i.e., if your post is deleted, your post count decreases...
