Hello,

I am a TonMo Supporter, but new to the forums. I started chatting with a number of people in the introduction section about where to list all the octopus furniture, jewelry, and art that I have been collecting and finding sources for.

I love these pieces as they remind me and others of what I tend to be all about. If any one is curious, I'll also try to start listing where I found them and who sells these pieces.

Some of these I have already listed in my first thread, but they were so well received that I want everyone to see them.

As you can see they are two sets of octo-based drawer handles and the third piece is a small chest-of-drawers.

Let me know what you think.

Here are some others.

The frame is available from the Tokyo Disney as part of their 20,000 Leagues set up.

The Lamp is a little accent piece that is great for a desk.

Finally, the barrette is something that I had to get for a female friend to kind of brand territory as everyone knows I am the 'octopus guy'.

OMG I love your stuff!!!!!! I am so jealous! Where did you get the lamp??

Donnerboy

I got the lamp off ebay for $19.99.

They are posted up every once in a while.

Here are a few more...

One is a small table/stool.
The second is simply a light switch plate.
Finally, this is a gate that I found online from Sparks Steel Art Gallery.

These have their own thread, but I decided to list them here as well in case anyone still follows this.

The first is the new bad guy from Pirates of the Carribean 2. He is a half-ceph captain of the cursed Flying Dutchman, Davey Jones. Yes it mixes two nautical folklores, but it works.

The second is an antique sewing tape measure. It is heavy and wonderful and has a starfish on the other side. It is a little too expensive for me right now which breaks the heart. I am not a seamstress, I am just a guy who loves his ceph stuff.

Donnerboy
Jul 26th, 2005, 12:34pm
This first piece is a little odd, but I found a small heart-shaped box with an octopus on it. It has a pewter finish, and try as I might, I have no idea why these two symbols were combined.

The second piece I showed in a different thread is also supposedly a jewelry box like this first piece. It is much more elaborate and I love it. As a guy, I have just kept it as an odd ornament for my desk.

The third piece is some dining silver from Crystal Art USA and as can be seen has a great octopus on the tray.

are these your pictures, their pictures or a mix of both?

Donnerboy
Jul 26th, 2005, 01:29pm
These are a combo of both mine and their pics.

Especially the tape measure. I didn't buy it as it was too expensive. The octopus lamp for example is also ther pic, but I bought the lamp. The lamp, by the way, has a twin up for sale right now on ebay. It is $24.99 with 5 days left on the auction. The last I looked, which was this morning, there were no bids.

I just got 3 of these off ebay. It is a stamped out octopus from a piece of brass for brooches and that sort of thing. She is 2" high, 2.5" wide and has a hollow back. They cost only about $1.75 a piece and they are great for decorating little things to reflect one's Nemo like ceph-fascination.

As a guy who enjoys a nice cigar, I am looking for a nice, very blue humidor for my cigars that I can mount one of these babies on. I have commonly seen them in barrettes, so I may give my girlfriend one to do just that.

There are more for sale on ebay right now. Go to ebay and type in "octopus brooch" and you can buy as many as you need.

I think the barrette is made from the same stamped octo you show below! I was looking carefully at each design and noticed the similarity.

I have found even more pieces out there.

The first is a silver bowl and lid from a wedding site of all things.

The second is a unique pic I found on the web. It has to be a custom piece, but I am trying to find out.

The third is a table built by a man who makes larger designs and corporate pieces. The priece is probably astronomical, but I am too curious not to know.

Just for all you cool cats and kittens in the know, I try to make the name of the site into the pic name so I have a record of where I found it. Let me know and I may be able to hekp you track down something.

A couple more wild pieces,

This first one was a table and chair. The table is ok, but the chair actually is rather emotive.

The second giant wood sculpture is a totem of some sort, but seems to be able to be purchased.

Finally, the third carving is from a group that makes violins and guitars for all you ceph loving musicians.

I have gotten a couple of more pieces.

The first two pics are of a torch style lighter. I host a weekly cigar night for some guys and this is my new lighter.

The second is a great little ceph crawling over a shell.

I just do not get bored with ceph art and I love to add new pieces to the collection. My house including living room, den, bedroom, and master bath are all slowly taking on this...feel.

It's not like a house where someone has a pig fetish, and they just have tons of stuffed and pottery pigs, my house is decorated with ceph ornamentation. It makes it look like Nemo has a house in Georgia.

In my never ending quest for these pieces (God help me if I ever become rich), I have found some very unique items which I wanted to share.

The first is a table as one can plainly see. I have posted a table before, and this tentacled piece is really an eye catcher. Imagine it in front of the old tv.

The second is a great jar. It's ceph head sculpted top form the handle-nob, while it descends more into simple painting at the bottom.

Finally, the third piece is an octopus box. Striking and sophisticated, it is highly emotive for anyone even without our shared passion for cephs.

My last pieces for today...

The first one is a great sculpture that I think is done by Michael Anderson. This is for significantly deeper pockets than little old me, but I can dream. I don't know anyone who wouldn't be in awe of this piece.

The second is a silly little octopus box. His mantle comes off revealing a little storage room inside.

Third, and this is just for fun, is a Stikfas figure. Stikfas are stickmen like the ones you used to draw as a kid, but as plastic poseable action figures. I have known about them for years, but they finally released a Diver & Squid. Actually, the parts are interchangeable. The squid can be made into an octopus with a mantle and no club arms. It's really pretty cool.

have you found any belt buckles?

Here are some buckles.

The first is remotely what I was looking for. There used to be a significantly better one out there, but I did not save the site or pic.

The second is just kind of silly unless you are an octopus-harley lover (which I am sure there are plenty of, it's just not my style),

The third is a almost a celtic knot with a little green octo in it. To each his own.

Donnerboy

...where did you get the table, I want one!!!!!!! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen!

Tables are something which are popping up a little bit more at a time. I think artists are simply seeing that octopuses are simply so unreal looking and yet instantly convey tons of feeling, emotions, and practically represent the ocean; that they can barely resist using them.

The first table is a Chris Barela design. It is my favorite as it is so well colored and very striking.

The second is also a Chris Barela Design, though a bit smaller.

The third is from an oriental distributor and one has to have it shipped direct. I assume that is the one you are asking about. If you look up "octopus table" on google, and then click on "images", you will find it.

However, here are others.

The first, I have never shown before as I just found it. This pic was taken in an art gallery in Orlando, Fl. The table was wood with a silicon rubber covering and was more than I could afford x 10.

The second (and the next one) I simply thought we should revisit while on tables. It is a little metal work and suggests more in the chair than the tiles on the table.

The third is a piece from Toscano Design who is well known for their gargoyles and unique designs. It is but a pedestal or footstool, but still unique.

It's not that it is hard for me to find octopus related stuff, it's just that I have very specific tastes when it comes to the cephs and art. I don't like the cutesy, big-eyed octos with a wide grin. I like the pieces that are have a realistic quality of sculpture with some really over the top victorian accents to it. With that in mind, I humbly submit these I found just today.

This first one I found from www.sfitzgeraldfineart.com. This man is officially my hero. He made this Octopus Door Handle from stainless, and it is available from his website under miscellaneous. If you love cephs, you love this handle. Period.

It is at the bottom of the list as the pic cannot be boosted to see a larger version. That is just as big as that pic gets. I have requested that the artist send me a larger pic, but we'll see. Maybe if I break down and buy it.

The second is a wine aerator. You put it in the mouth of the decanter, and as you pour wine down this silver ceph, it tumbles about his tentacles and is properly aerated.

Lastly, the third is this little piece of wood carved art. Personally, I just want the outside as a frame for a personal potrait, ...or a mirror.

Stephen Fitzgerald called me yesterday and we had a long chat. What a great and down to earth guy.

He said that the octopus door handle piece had been sold, but that he can always make more as he lives off his comission work. Each one will be slightly different and unique, but can adhere to that overall shape and pattern.

He sent me a larger pic that I was able to install as a thumbnail that you can click on for a larger view.

I simply love this piece. It is so monstrously ugly that it is wonderful and emotive, beautiful and tragic all at the same time. Apparently he made it for a sushi bar and I am starting to think it is a place I would like to go to.

His is a staggering $1,200.00, but man is it pretty...

However, in my search, I have started to find others which have created very similar pieces for substantially less. If I were a wealthier man, I would still go with Stephen as he is just a great guy.

I am trying to find out from a few different people if we have a group buy of like 6-10 pieces, if we can get them at a substantially reduced cost. I'll keep everyone posted and see what we can do. If some of these artists will make a bunch and sell them for $400-500, it would put it well within reach.

I really like the Idea of these doorhandles.
Looks like my next holiday-project :-)
But I think 1,200$ is way over the top...
I am a steel erector (guess that's the appropriate word for someone that builds welded constructions?) and I did a lot of forging whenever there was a little free time.

I'd say you need no more than 4 to 5 hours to make a pair of these.
But after all it is still ART and not an everyday product :cyclops:

Apart from that I would make them myself, I would not pay more than -lets say- 300$ to 400$ for a pair.

Damn, I'm really starting to like these...
...but I don't own an adequate door

Here are some new little things for your amusement.

The first is a wacky little thimble. Normally I do not lean toward the big-eyed ceph stuff, but this was just a little too fun.

The second is much more to my tastes. It is a 20,000 Leagues box that the top comes off of.

The third is just a little window hanging light catcher.

Also, I have added a new knob. This little guy is about 2.5" across and is very sturdy. It is a knob from Roland St. John's collection. I am replacing a set of brass knobs with these and have already had several compliments. He also makes a good shark knob.

In my continuing Nemo quest to decorate all things ala ceph; I have found these last few items I submit for your enjoyment.

The first is a thimble. I have submitted a thimble before, but it was just to be goofy. This one is a bit more gripping and would certainly compliment the tape measure from posts past.

The second is a compact from Estee Lauder. I had a cigar box purse made from a cigar box decorated in ships and lighthouses for my girlfriend, and I want to get her one of these to sit in it. It's an older piece and you have to look for them.

The third is a t-shirt that one can buy from a site that is a farse about the North American Redwood Octopus, a species of tree dweeling octos that are endangered. It may be a load of bunk, but it's funny and the shirt is kind of cool.

The first is a really cool stainless steel can/ bottle coozie holder thingie. I saw it and loved it. I found it on ebay, so feel free to use the term "octopus stainless steel". I have the guys information so if anyone else in intersted, you could contact him directly. It was about $25 with shipping. A little pricey, but as I will own this thing for the next 10 years or so, it amortizes pretty well.

The second and third are both pen holders. I am trying to get one now for my desk.

If this doesn't get the blood pumping, then you either need to check the collective pulses or maybe you're not really ceph lovers (but I know you are).

It is a skeleton octopus watch that has additional ceph art built into its frame. I was going to add some other pieces, but I think this should stand on its own. The site is andrevorontonsov.com so feel free to go by and take a look.

Anyway, this is the stuff I did not include yesterday as I did not want to detract from the watch.

The first is a pewter bathtub stopper from www.billyjoe.com.

The second is simply a beer mug. I know it's a ray and not a ceph, but bear with me. I added it as I spoke to the dealer that sells these. They made the stainless steel beer can/bottle coozie from before. They said that they can make this same mug with the octopus from the coozie.

"East, West, just points on the compass, each as stupid as the other."

Hi-

I just found this site by searching for "octopus furniture".
I was looking for a little, resin octopus footstool/table to replact the one that my sister had that has broken. SHe loves octopi and the ocean, as do I and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a site where it is sold, or something like that?
I found a wine chiller thing that looks like the one she had, but she had one in the form of a teeny table..... here's the link.

I have said this in a private message, but I think all should hear it. This is from Design Toscano who is known for their gargoyles and dragons.

Design Toscano is a great company for more than one reason. They are simply one of my favorites as I was looking for a table top design they had of a 20,000 Leagues design with a ceph crawling over a Nautilus-like sub. I loved it, I wanted it. I emailed Design Toscano and they said it had been discontinued. However, they said they had the mold and would be more than happy to reproduce one for me. There is no longer real customer service like that in the world. Seriously.

If you, and possibly anyone else, are interested in this footstool; I say go to them at www.DesignToscano.com and ask if they will make more. I will get one myself so you would have a minimum order of two. If there are any other takers, we could put in the orders all at once and they would be much more ready to remake several. As I recall the price was about $39.99 plus shipping.

Lea, if you want to email them and organize this: count me in for one.

The third is a bronze medalion that I have no idea what it is used for accepting to look very cool.

The Artifaqt.com stuff is cool. The round things are cool as paperweight objects but could be used as accent tiles on a wall.....wish there were more cephs.

I just found these on ebay.

They are listed as mexican glass swizzle sticks. I have a couple of these that my sister gave me with little blue octos on them which I covet and do not let people use.

I have not bid on these in case someone else wants to snag them.

I found this odd piece at www.silverfrank.com. It is the #8501 Shiebler Salad Set.

It's real expensive, but notice the ceph in the bowl of the spoon.

This is something from sweetsoaps.com.

I have found just the mold in other spots, but here for about $6.95 you get a soap sculpture that though ugly, is kind of cool. It's nicely colored and well textured.

Here is a plush little guy, and for a stuffed octo, he is one of the first I have liked.

He is from innovativescuba.com.

These are two new ones.

I put them in here together as they are both tentacle style rings. One is more specific and the second is more suggestive, but they both do the job.

Arrrgghh, I love finding treasure!

Nice rings - I'd like to know more about them. Obviously a lot of work went into creating them. Where did you find them?

Here is a weird little guy I found in a grocery store.

This is a Ja Ru Magic Grow Sea Life animal that happens to be an octopus. Soak him in water and he grows to 600%.

OK, just for the record, I HATE HELLO KITTY. Seriously.

However, in my constant search, I saw this one thing that kind of surprised me. I bought it, just to give to some girl in my family or something.

It's a Hello Kitty (ugh) with a squid mantle hat. How weird is that? How much do the Japanese like these things that someone thinks a cat in a squid hat is cute?

Along that line, here is another. It is a necklace of sorts with Mario Bros. figures including (our favorite) the squid.

Nancy,

This one is available at www.hb-art.com/htm/rings/octopus.htm. It is studded with sapphires and diamonds and is a mere $2,500.00.

Nancy pointed this out to me which was also on the www.goldeneyesantafey.com site.

I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but upon examination of the squiggly thing, I am quite sure I do.

I hate to disagree, but a cat in a squid-hat is ALWAYS cute. Especially considering it looks like it's in a litter-box ("Time to make inky!"). Sanrio had a Deep One-looking character some years back, whose bestest buddy was an octopus that looked like an ink blot. Terrible octopus design, although the fishy guy DID bear a close resemblence to Dagon. You know, if Dagon were infatilized for Japanese children or Twentysomething hipster girls from Silverlake, circa 1993.

It is cute, though... I would love to have it on my keychain... It reminds me of a bento box - although why you would want to eat Hello Kitty is beyond me.

Here is a neat little one.

I love the multi-purple colored back ground. really adds to the life of the piece.

This is a piece of art called a lampwork bead.

I am not sure of the derivation of that, but I ended up really liking this little guy. He is a little silver octo crawling on the blue glass.

I had this smugglers' cane for years - looked like a gentlemens' walking stick, but once the top was unscrewed, it turned out to be a hollow steel tube filled with coil-spring shock-absorbing glass test tubes. At any rate, an idiot colleague of mine was attempting to do some Fred Astaire action with this prop-toy years ago and dropped it, shattering the ABS plastic top portion. Rebecca managed to buy some antique mahogany, and secretly carved a stylized squid-top for the cane. Here it is:

Yes Erich,

You are a lucky man to have such a wife that supports you in that way. I love the cane.

Maybe you should get her something like this bangle style bracelet below. It has suckers...

...And now, for something Completely different...

Somebody put on a helluva show in this ballooon sculpture of our preferred underwater pal. Must have been some kind of 'under the sea' prom theme.

Check out this page of a garden catalog for three octopus Christmas tree ornaments (blown glass, from Czechoslovakia). There are other marine creature ornaments, too, including a jellyfish!
