View Full Version : Dwarfs in Hawaii? Octomush Oct 20th, 2004, 01:57pm Hi.... I have been looking to catch a good octo for my tank and I thought maybe a dwarf would be cool. Are there any dwarfs in hawaii? Cephkid Oct 20th, 2004, 04:59pm eupyrymna scolopes. Maybe other dwarfs, but that's the one I know for sure. Octomush Oct 20th, 2004, 05:04pm Cool thanks! Do u know around which islands they live? If so what kind of areas do they live in? Cephkid Oct 20th, 2004, 05:10pm I think they are found around all the islands. Shallow water (ankle deep), in shallows/sand flats. Octomush Oct 20th, 2004, 05:15pm O I think I know what ur talkin about! Those are awesome! I read in a book that they are so small they sometimes live in old matis shrimp burrows! Cool.... And I think I know where on my island I might catch one. :D joel_ang Oct 21st, 2004, 12:43am They're not actual octos, they're seploids and are more closely related to cuttles. They're nocturnal and they spend their day buried in the sand so find one is pretty tough. You could try mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni or even a vampyroteuthis :vampyro: :heee: Seriously, I don't think there are dwarfs there (according to ceph base). Octomush Oct 21st, 2004, 02:42am Not seploides.... There is an octo.. I read about it in a book. joel_ang Oct 21st, 2004, 08:38am Oh I was refering to eupryma, any idea what species that octo was? Cephkid Oct 21st, 2004, 12:08pm Is O. mercatoris found in hawaii? joel_ang Oct 21st, 2004, 12:13pm Nope it isnt. The smallest there seems to be macropus and its still pretty big Cephkid Oct 21st, 2004, 12:17pm Well, if you're using cephbase (what I use), they don't know its biogeography. Seriously! Look at their O.mercatoris entry- it doesn't say anything about biogeography OR country list. joel_ang Oct 21st, 2004, 12:22pm Yea thats true, they said their data was probably incomplete too. Two octo species in Hawaii is too little to be true. Cephkid Oct 21st, 2004, 12:24pm Not sayin yer wrong, just asking if anyone has any info from somewhere else as well. Scouse Oct 21st, 2004, 01:15pm Octomush....."You lucky lucky bast***, what i'd do to be spat at in the face like that!!!!!" Sorry havin a 'Life of Brian Moment' gotta say how cool a postion you are in to go divin an pick em out. Im intrested thou mate, how do you do your water changes, do you just wander down the beach with a bucket or what?!?!?! :bugout: :D Octomush Oct 21st, 2004, 09:52pm lol.... I chage the water in my tank by filling trashcans full of it at the beach and bringing them back to my house. joel_ang Oct 22nd, 2004, 02:27am Isn't that really heavy? Colin Oct 22nd, 2004, 04:06am Well, if you're using cephbase (what I use), they don't know its biogeography. Seriously! Look at their O.mercatoris entry- it doesn't say anything about biogeography OR country list. Part of the problem is that they think that there may be several species all getting called mercatoris or jouhbini... they have to revise that small group in the future.... Scouse Oct 22nd, 2004, 10:24am lol.... I chage the water in my tank by filling trashcans full of it at the beach and bringing them back to my house. ha haaa!! brilliant sounds like a bit of a pain but better than havin to make up saltwater in the house!!! class!!! Octomush Oct 22nd, 2004, 01:27pm Yeah me and my dad do it with a truck so that makes it a crap load easier... G Leddington Oct 22nd, 2004, 08:53pm O I think I know what ur talkin about!
