View Full Version : 101 Uses for Ammonites
Phil Jul 9th, 2004, 12:33pm Here's a starter for 10 points. Anyone have any other good uses for a (dead!) ammonite?

OctopusV Jul 9th, 2004, 02:26pm A fake Cinnabon prop?
WhiteKiboko Jul 9th, 2004, 04:51pm isnt that the same as Phil's idea? :)
OctopusV Jul 10th, 2004, 01:58am I'm not sure, but I don't think so, my idea is it's supposed to look like an actual Cinnabon, not resemble it, I guess there really aren't that many uses for an ammonite shell.
tonmo Jul 10th, 2004, 10:13am No. 3 (after cinnibun replacement): Drunk-guy happy-maker
One use is to leave it on your mantle, then meet a drunk guy in a bar who really likes ammonites, invite him to your home, then tell him he can keep it, and watch him drag it home while avoiding the bobbies.
Alternatively, you can use it like this...

Bah! The copper look utterly baffled. He exchanged a look of 'Oh a nutter' with his colleague and drove on. My luck.

tonmo Jul 11th, 2004, 08:19pm Sure, you can put it in Microsoft Paint and do a "save as", and there should be a drop-down option to change the file type -- choose jpg/jpeg.
Assuming you're using Microsoft XP or some such, just use the Start menu, then All Programs | Accessories | Paint.

REVOLUTIONARY ! :notworth:
No.66: Guido Fawkes' commemorative pyrotechnics
Whilst on the subject of revolutions, I thought it appropriate to insert no.66,
whilst also saving Tony (our gracious & benevolent leader :notworth: ) a few cents off his web hosting bill.
http://www.tonmo.com/phpBB/files/Revolution.jpg
Pack enough solid propellent & iron filings into a Cleoniceras Besairei, drill out the centre with your Dremel (mine's a Draper as I'm of low caste). Nail to a suitable post nearby, light the blue touch paper & celebrate the barbaric death of Guido Fawkes & his chums who dared to attempt what most Brits are thinking !!
http://www.tonmo.com/phpBB/files/Guido_pre-rack.gif
Here we see the diminutive Guido being presented to King James I prior to his extensive interrogation on the rack whereby he achieved a reasonably normal stature.
This lead to the 1st reported use of the phrase "growing pains" also known in the 17th century as "Fawkes' ache" which was also used as a toast by those who supported the cause after poor Guido's demise.
Apparently, the Wright brothers assisted in the gunpowder plot but I'm afraid that suggestion is quite preposterous !
Colin Jul 22nd, 2004, 08:32am main reason for using the ammonites is actually to keep the calcium levels at a high level and dirt is removed by the sponge on the drip tray... I filter all my tanks this way

spartacus Jul 22nd, 2004, 09:19am Colin, there was a glitch in the matrix !
your sign is 67 though it ruins any Route 66 reference.
Dirt from my early pond filters was removed by using a mop & bucket on the floor as I had a few design flaws. Carbon canisters work well for adsorbing (not ab) impurities & (don't tell phil) make red diesel not red !! thereby saving owners of diesel vehicles plenty dollar :D
