Any readers live in North Dakota?
At the North Dakota Heritage Center at Bismarck an incredibly rare fossil of a Late Cretaceous giant squid gladius is being prepped for display. This probably belonged to a twelve foot squid that lived 80 million years ago in the shallow Western Interior Seaway.
A few details are available here (http://www.bismarcktribune.com/articles/2004/03/31/news/state/sta03.txt) though there is no picture.
The pen will probably resemble these on display at the Museum of Geology at the University of Kansas of the contemporary giant Niobrarateuthis. (http://www.oceansofkansas.com/images2/squidpen.jpg)
